Metamorphosis

In this series of works, I explore gender concepts. Before we get started I would like to define some vocab. Gender identity is a personal sense of one's own gender. While gender expression is how you outwardly express your gender to the world. That may be through clothing, hair, behavior, body language, etc. These two concepts work together to form an individual's identity. It’s essential to recognize that someone's gender expression doesn't always match up with their gender identity. 

The purpose of this series is a result of rigid gender rules that hurt those that don’t align with them. I wanted to showcase the fluidity of gender expression and how it correlates to the natural world. The landscape around us takes various forms throughout time. Always sporting a different look when seasons change. Human beings aren’t so different. Their self Identity is continually evolving in an organic manner.  With that being said I invite you to unravel the being in front of you. Don’t recoil from them, as they will undergo metamorphosis. Their essence will translate into the next form they choose to hold.
